The role of the Law of Octaves in inner work.

The Law of octaves demand that all processes must be subjected to change at certain points. The process of creation, through the 3 forces, moving from Alpha to Omega for the deepening and widening of consciousness, initiated an aggregated process compelled by a force. This force, initially existed as a line of potentiality between the Omega and Alpha, but gradually formed points of deflections, where by processes could progress for this deepening and widening of consciousness. For one process to proceed it could only do so by the replication of its process on a smaller scale, to fit the needs for its potential path, fractalizing. Until a Multiplicity that works in Unity emerged.

All processes, everything succumbs to octavic movement, everything exists on a scale of progression and continuity, as everything is vibration. With an initiatory movement, a movement of progression happens.  The defining character of this octavic movement, compelled by the Natural force of progress or regress, there are points of deflection where the movement changes in its amplitude. Normally one point of deflection is initiated by the movement/energy in the previous, which it is amplified by. A point of deflection is when one segment of progress or regress moves to the next. At certain points of deflection, the amplification is much more in deflect than the others, compelled by its nature.  This change in its state, the rate of deflection must increase and that change must be adjusted back on course by a third force or a point that stands above or outside the point where the movement is. Without this the amplitude will be slowed to the point of discontinuity or reversal, twisting, and turning.

For instance, if I seek to do a certain thing, a task or so forth, at someone point, there will be a loss of interest, perhaps a loss of attention, a loss of intention, or a loss of vitality and all these losses could be from their own ascending octave. For it must be understood that only ascending octaves are those that deal with aim and application towards a higher ideal. In terms of inner work, in the microcosm of it, a lesser discontinuity is my inability to be attentive due to the lack of energy to maintain that connection, it will inevitably fall away by the wayside and to sleep I return, not even aware that I have forgotten. And while this attention is gone, it does not readily appear to me that it has happened.

So, you may ask where is the twist seen?

The octavic movement is both ascending and descending, the movement to be aware, is met with the movement to be automatic. As I try, I think I am working with attention, but in fact I am not, for often I am thinking about working with attention and that has replaced the actual work itself. At its beginning attention was there, but only for a moment and once my work becomes a thought from my mechanical part of mind, it slides right into the associative process which is tied to my connections to the world, which at any one point is lived in my last shifting of “I’s” which I perceive as all of me, at any time, when it is merely only a small fragment of myself.  The mere 1 point in consciousness I am reduced to, when before, there was more of me.

This can be used with anything, as inner work with Self-Sensing, Divided-Attention, and Self-Observation, is the act of opening, bringing into your experience more of you, more collected, more contained, more unified to this point in existence. In a larger sense, what is common when working with being awareness is the eventual recognition that the inner work you were doing wasn’t actually happening, and in fact you were working in the wrong direction. This usually occurs due to an insight comes that is higher about what it means to actually work on self that you thought you knew. One finds their work has been only in their head, conceptual, and has yet to come into the parts that can actually do, even though they thought they were doing the whole time, but what they were actually being lead to work on, unbeknownst to them, was their attitude, which is perceived in the moment they see their illusion. My attitude towards myself, in how I perceive my respective parts and from what place in me are they seen, if actually seen at all? My Attitude towards my work, what I feel it means to work, is it to get rid of what I am and forsake my shortcomings and want to be whole, even God?

You have to begin to understand that one of the reasons why you cannot work is that there exists in you a part that does not know what you want, does not believe in the work you are doing, and has very little interest in it. In you, are a cluster of mini, sub wills each willing itself to be, under a great illusion, the author of your actions, when it is merely a point within the cluster. Will should be in a blending straight line, I.e. concentrated, united, but it appears much like a chaotic scribble.  Each of these sub wills belong to a sub personality, that due to the octavic movement, perceives itself as the whole individual, that you take as the whole of you at any moment. While working, trying any task whatsoever, ultimately what you are trying to do is maintain a unified energy or in this case attention towards an aim that is strong, in a sense to put on the face of what a micro wholeness could be, a little wholeness, to act as if you have it in practice.

Practical Tasks are designed to bring more of yourself to a moment, not just 1 part of the 3-fold nature of the physical you are constituted with, to get a taste of what it could mean to be a son of man and at the same time, to become confronted with, again and again your helplessness with respect to your automatic functions, your lower natures. But in this lies some important octavic principles, all efforts towards inner work fall within the Octave of Effort, and an effort to be true, must consist of more than 1 part of the 3-fold nature. So, a loss of effort, only to find yourself doing something else, is an example of octavic movement, as all octaves will have interruptions and will deviate. A personality will be seen as a whole, and due to the limitation caused by the octave, from personality to personality one will not be able to ordinarily differentiate between them. For how could you, if you are not there to see it, and remain saying “I” to all of them unconsciously? One has to always begin again, come back, to ones wish, one’s personal objective.

It’s by a careful guise thrown up by the false personality for one to think that they will possess the same intention behind their work they had in the beginning, and it is also erroneous to imagine that one is rid of this sense of thinking they know because they have made some progression. Progression is upon a line that both evolves and involves, it’s never always in one direction only. It is a continual effort to both see this impulse, these tendencies and further come back to one’s real situation now, as they will NEVER BE GONE FOREVER, BUT WILL ALWAYS COME BACK, IN FACT THEY HAVE NEVER LEFT. It is why, the part that creates the twist, or discontinuity in you must become your companion and must be in view always.

This is the point, all work on self, every part of it, exists within a larger Octave of Self transformation. It can be thought of as a destination not yet traveled to, you get the map, and there by acquiring the resources to begin your journey. In this larger Self Transformation, there are parts and there are methods, which are about of the resources that are essential. Each part of the method has a process and has its progress, for instance on my travel if it is far, I will need to be concerned with travel depending on the terrain that I will encounter on my way; Plane, car, boat, bike, boot, etc. I will have to pay, payment will be required, demanded. So it is with the method, each practice has its own octavic movement, otherwise the main Octave would go nowhere, as again, the Law suggests that nothing can go on the same way forever without interruption and EVERYTHING, doesn’t matter if it is material, spiritual,  psychological, or physiological – all is subject to it, a thought, feeling, so on. The Law of octaves is about the succession of progress of moments and of events.

In this, with respect to work on self, not even failures exist, what is it that has failed? To fail assumes that you could succeed, the failure is a misunderstanding of a process of seeing and work, this relates to wrong attitude. What in me has failed? What in me is so unified that it can have notions about itself on this level? The ego-personality sees failure, for it believes it can BIG DO, from the 1 point in consciousness it abides by at any time. It’s like sin, what is a sin? Sin literally means missing the mark perhaps on knowledge not lived. And what stops one from being about to not live up to what they know? A divided automatic nature they DON’T know nor can see and while in life has no sense of, for ordinarily they do not exist in their life consciously and actively.

The question again, so how can such a one be said to fail? So then, what is failure? Failure is a reminder that I am HERE, it is a return to my work, it is a return to a work that is in my subconscious, sub to my walking state which is sleep, a return to a line of work that maintains its position. I am walking with a task, I become unconscious to it, I am gone, 2 hrs later I come back to myself; here I am again where I left off before I fell asleep to continue the work with the task I loss. It is the attitude of working on self that must change, for when I sleep and come back, I come back to a work that was put in my back pocket and I take it out to move forward. The more I come back, the further the points of sleep in-between become smaller and smaller. In this there is no failure, only a process of both involution and evolution, progress and regress, movement and repose, desire and non-desire, to work and not to work, without friction there is no development and this….is – my place upon the octave.

Working with exercises

Practical application of tasks or inner work.

To begin let’s start with the premise of what it means to begin on a journey for self-development and transformation, with respect to inner work. On the outset, one begins with a need, a thirst or hunger that swells as a definite sense or feeling of loss or lack. In themselves, a sort of helplessness emerges, whereby something in themselves, that they do not truly understand, is yearning for some type of direction. Often this comes early in life, only to be supplanted by a kind of learning, that turns this need around, with all its sincerity, into a feeling of aversion. One becomes adversarial towards it, seeking to escape that lack, which now, has become a reminder of what one isn’t, a lack of control and cohesion in one’s life.  With the outgrowth and strengthening of the false sense of one’s “self-importance” in their identification with words and ideas, is felt as a kind of pain to be found wanting. Where before it was a search, now a weakness. A weakness the psychological life senses as a pain to the organism which has been educated in us and all pain is sensed as a discomfort which should be done away with or covered. Thus, walls and processes to handle this covering gradually forms, again by education, and one of these processes are self-insincerity.

Even in saying the above, something of that need still exists inside, but often buried deeply. But a Law of development states, that in order to attract more of something you first have to have a little bit of that something already deposited in you.  And although that need was covered, life events, can produce the right intensity to shock you to feel some type of loss and thus search.

A search is to be a search always, a question that never closes, but remains a quest; living, alive, and vibrant. This cannot be had if the question dies for the lowest most mechanical part of the mind to be satisfied in a functional role that was never it’s natural purpose. When one begins, they begin with that lower part of the mind, which like a collector, has gathered data concerning the world we live in (all data perceived through senses, here mostly taking about information through reading) together, but subsequently takes it as its own, using it to affirm its sense of control, possession. Connections are only made on a surface level and the general features are the regurgitation of ideas, slogans, and sayings that have no function beyond repetition to sound good and likewise convince oneself and others of this possession.  Thus, the first task of inner work is to make further connection with this inner need, to experience the depth of this lack. The continual feeling of this lack is the beginning of actual work, for it shows one’s work has begun to move out of the lower mind, and come into the feelings, and only by the function of the feelings and body can “DOING” AND “CHANGE” be even a possibility.

One may think, isn’t this what has brought me here? After all I’m here learning and trying right? Well as it is true with everything, nothing AND I MEAN NOTHING, at these levels of progression, unless it isn’t, is just a onetime deal. What I mean by that is all because I had a little sense of being in need of acquaintance, doesn’t mean that this sense remains continually the same forever – often when a person finds themselves engaged with a certain intention in the beginning when starting something, it turns upon itself. There are points upon the line of progression, where one will have to, among other things, reaffirm their attitude about work, so that it and one’s work can grow. But this is not done by preaching to oneself, but a certain effort that can be made, that allows one to value their good fortune of being able to try again and this all relates to feeling.

The feeling of work does not come overnight, it is not a quick process, not the same duration for everyone, but takes time regardless. Feeling in general is often a blind spot, we think we understand what that is, but where this understanding originates in us, by nature, is not meant to see feeling by ordinarily means. When you attempt to feel you may find yourself thinking about feeling and thinking about feelings is not feeling, nor is sensation feeling, and neither is emotion feeling. Our ordinary filter for feeling is based in the mechanical part of the mind which speaks and understands an entirely different language than feeling. A connection between the mind and feeling has to be built. This connection begins with the work of seeing, but the work of seeing has to begin with the work with intention (aim) and sensation. With sensation, the act of seeing cannot truly exist without a sense that I exist, which sensation can give as normally a person lives their whole day without any sense of their being in it. I must begin to inhabit myself in order to influence it. Self-sensing is asking yourself who am I now, for this sensation is happening always and, in every situation, and it is the initial connection to the life in us. Working with sensation, sensing different parts of the body while actively in life can create a connecting point, by anchoring the attention to something that is always present, this creates a space for seeing to be attracted, or by seeing “a special kind of consciousness.”

As for the work with intention or aim is the amassing of a definite kind of active energy, which when we begin anything new, we are quickened behind a “desire” to make an effort. This initial part to effort, also attracts seeing, for it creates a fore-movement when a task is given, initiated by thought to try and therefore sets a plan which creates an undetermined point in one’s day where the effort can be made. There, in that moment, seeing can become active in time.

Let’s say I try to sense a part of myself while interacting in life, only to remember that I forgot due to the conditions of outer life and the divisible nature of the mind, which I must see, what naturally follows are mechanical thoughts from personalities in me, such as “I should be able to do this,” or “why can’t I do this,” or “It’s too hard,” or “Why am I even doing this,” or “I suck,” “I can’t do anything,” “I’m better than this’’ and so on. What is said doesn’t matter as much as the place the thought comes from, which will be that mechanical part of the mind, for it does not know how to receive nor appreciate this “remembering that I did not remember”, it just brings one back to the reality of their situation, which it desperately seeks to prevent. This remembering is a Return, and this returning is to a point of connection, a coming back to “awareness of existence.” To use a saying from the gospel, “Many are called few chosen,” the Return, is a call to action, action in this case referring to attention and is from above, not simply some trifle to be thrown away.

It is at this point of Calling, where one can feel their lack, their inability, their unableness – and it is in feeling this lack, that a feel for one’s work begins. Of course, at this point one, after feeling this lack, should try in that very moment, regardless of the conditions you find yourself in, for to put off that call would be failure to act on the gift of the Call to an awareness of my point in existence now. It is from this point of my existence now, where I can take in myself as an impression of nourishment, for what stands before my essence self and life, is a thick crust, a ground and in order to take in outer life, I have to absorb it with the elements of the ground. My automatic functions reacting with life are the food for my essence, the energy behind its reactivity.

Gradually something begins to soften, the softening of walls that prevent the experience of this lack. Initially it is perceived as a bad thing, a negative, a suffering hence the thoughts that follow to lessen or cover the lack. In the beginning you receive a task with the expectation of being successful, of being able, for this is how we are educated to be the best or to succeed. This is not bad, but this becomes a covering for how we perceive a void that may exists in us. To not be successful feels uncomfortable, but a task is not given to be successful, it is not given to be the best, it is given to sense the reality of one’s situation and to gradually form an observational point of “interest” in one’s automatic function. This “interest” is not merely an intellectual fancy, but a FEELING of interest, a “being-interest”.

From the above, to establish this process with seeing; first there is a lack of seeing, that  becomes the blindness of seeing, which then becomes the negation of seeing, which then becomes the suffering of seeing, which then becomes the acceptance of seeing, and there by the interest in being SEEN.  The softening process begins to melt away the instant defensive reaction to being unable (but they come back in some form, for the friction between the two must exists). The suffering turns over into a real want to be related to what and who I am, beyond the falseness I imagine myself to be. The need to be related to one’s automatic function is born, where before I hate what I see now it becomes a joy, the pain of all my qualities unbecoming, becomes a love for being. To be conscious is not a blissful thing that the new age imagines – it is to see things in the raw, to see EVERYTHING more vividly and that includes the sweet, the bitter, the good, the bad, and the ugly in you.  In a parable, consciousness is to be as two birds sitting on one branch, one bird eating the bitter fruit, the other watching.

What is the place of thought in inner work?

Thought plays a most important role, but in order to begin to recognize its multilayered place we must first pull back some of the perceived notions of its place in a practice. In some practices that are more new age oriented the place of thought is absent, as it is perceived as a limitation. As is true with most things, there is an element of truth here, so let’s explore this idea. Often you hear the catch phrase, “get above the mind”, or “get out of the head”, and from these sayings one would be left with the conclusion that there is something wrong with thinking or the mental process of deduction. But I offer a different look, there is nothing wrong with genuine reason, with the actual process of deducing, the problem here, as with everything in us, what is it in us that is thinking, what is it in us that is deducing, and is it actually a process of either? In the above we see the term, “mechanical part of the mind,” a lot, and it is in this part of the mind, that takes ownership of ideas and thoughts, and reduce them to the mundane, i.e. one’s vanity as the information merged together, that allows for, a specific kind of mindset, reducing all information to this organic limitation.

Often a question asked comes from here, the question is coated with the mindsets need to be affirmed of what it believes it possesses, likewise what it wants to collect or record strengthening a false sense of acquaintance (imagination) in the place of actual working, and the production of a kind of calming which purpose is to push away the real friction that does exists with that deeper sense of lack. But to reason, to deduce is to (in awareness) have a long thought, holding a concept in mind, and allowing for it to germinate. In the process of this, you would either hold the concept as a mental image or as the concept in word, and hold it in front of you, as an unknown. This is bringing a question to the thought without words, but of course you can bring a literal question to the thought you are engaging, allowing it a space to be freely there; not drawing upon subsequent information you’ve acquired and if you do, do so with a sensation of your body – a sense of yourself doing this. This creates a movement in the mind, allowing for connectivity outside of the mechanical part.

All processes of thought, if conscious, should be paired with either a sensation or feeling of yourself thinking it, and if possible, sensation/feeling in the abdomen (the mind is in the atmosphere around the body, so on one level, how can a thought be without a sense of my existence? The body-mind connection ought to be there, especially when you speak). One process of the mechanical part of mind, always useful, is making comparison. For instance, one can make comparisons between ideas and efforts, and deduce their usefulness, how they relate, and how they can be used later. The mind itself cannot do, but it can and should observe, serve, constate, and prepare for or through doing. For example, to constate, i.e. to verify or prove, ones thought of something ought to be in question, for there is nothing to prove if it does not remain so, for it becomes just mechanical junk the lower mind holds, nothing more than a trash bin. But the thought that serves doing, subjects’ information to direct experience, showing that Self Knowledge is imbedded directly into the process.

With thought it is always, as it is with everything, useful and important to see where the thought, where one’s questions are coming from. If, for instance, one is given a task to do, and one immediately wants to know what it is about, before trying it, almost always this thought has nothing of them in it that relates to their individuality, for how a question can relate to ones individuality comes through by way of individual experience, which is their own.  Where such a question does come from, has behind it a need, which often falls into the category of mechanical in the above paragraph. For if I explain why you try something before you try, what is this answer serving in you? Do you really need to know now, can we work together, and discover what we find? Sure, I can explain, but as it is with everything, then the mind of the experimenter, may affect the experiment and the results may not be results at all, at least not from more of you, for the mental influence of what you will experience and what it is for will be there.

The chief problem in this is that most of one’s activity in life, what they call work and care, is only being done through one part of the 3-fold nature of the physical body and if one works only through one part, it can be almost a certainty, that this tendency can occur in every area of their life. But it has been educated in us the reliance on a specific kind of function at the expense of all others, the function of the mechanical part of the mind. The dysfunction must become functional, which is a big change, but for this to begin, the dysfunctional must be known, and known deeply.

The genesis of tasks are Self-Sensing, Attention, Divided Attention, Self-Observation, contemplation, Long thinking which encompasses the work with Intention/aim, the cultivation of Wish, the Attraction of Seeing, constate, separation of states and parts, the Eating of personality or syphoning of energy wasted in reactivity, posture, gesture, movement, tone of voice, and facial expression –and of course much more. The idea is that this is way of opening; opening to the lower 3-fold nature firstly, working to cultivate the energy in the lower centers, moving past barriers in the body, to become as an opening antenna to the Indwelling Natures, the higher levels of mind and being.  These practices can HELP IN ALL AREAS OF ONES EXISTENCE, of course their help is only a byproduct, but their aim is opening.

The history of the hollow men and the bitter rose

The history of the hollow men and the bitter rose

By Rene Daumal

The hollow-men lives in solid rock and move about in the form of mobile caves or recesses. In ice they appear as bubbles in the shape of men. But they never venture out in the air for the wind would blow them away. They have houses in the rock whose walls are made of emptiness and tents in the ice whose fabric is made of bubbles. During the day they stay in the stone. And at night they wonder through the ice and dance during the full moon. But they never see the sun or they would burst. They eat only the void such as the form of corpses. They get drunk on empty words and all the meaningless expressions we utter. Some people say they have always existed and will exist forever. Others say they are the dead and others say as a sword has its scabbard or a foot its imprint, every living man has, in the mountain, his hollow man, which he will seek out in death.

In the village of a hundred houses there lived the old priest magician, Who-Knows and his wife, who-lay-who-lay. They had two sons, two identical twins who could not be told a part, called “Mo” and “Ho”. Even their mother got them mixed up. To tell them apart, on the day of name giving, they had put on Mo a necklace barring a little cross and on Ho a necklace barring a little ring.

Old Who-Knos had one great un-confessed worry; according to customs his eldest son should succeed him. But which was his eldest son? Did he even have an eldest son? At the age of adolescences Mo and Ho were already accomplished mountaineers. They came to be called The Two Mountain Goats.

One day their father said,” to whichever one of you brings back to me the bitter rose, I shall hand on the Great Knowledge. The Bitter Rose is found only at the summit of the highest peaks. Whoever eats of it finds that, whenever he is about to tell a lie, aloud or to himself, his tongue begins to burn. He can still tell falsehoods but he has been warned. A few people have seen the Bitter Rose,” according to them he says,” it looks like a large multicolored Lichen or a swarm of butterflies. No one has ever been able to catch it, for the smallest tremor of fear anywhere close by alerts it and it disappears into the rock even if one desires it one is a little afraid of possessing it and it vanishes. To describe an impossible action or absurd undertaking they say, “It’s like looking for night in broad daylight or it’s like trying to catch the Bitter Rose.”

Mo had taken his rope and pick and hatchet and iron hooks, at sunrise he is already high up on a peak called Cloudy Head. Like a lizard, sometimes like a spider he inches upwards across the high red precipice, between white snow below and blue black sky, Little swift moving clouds envelope him from time to time and then expose him suddenly to the light again.  And now at last, a little distance above him, he sees the Bitter Rose, shimmering with unearthly tents. He repeats to himself unceasingly the charm which his father taught him to ward off fear. He’s going to need his screw ring here with a rope sling in order to straddle this out cropping of rock like a rearing horse. He strikes with his hammer and his hand breaks through into a hole. There is a hollow under the stone, shattering the crust around it he sees that the hollow is in the form of a man, torso, leg, arms, and little tubes in the shape of fingers spread in terror. He has split the head with the blow of his pick. A icey wind passes across the stone, Mo has killed an Hollow-man. He has shuttered as the Bitter Rose has retreated into the rock.

Mo climbs back down to the village and tells his father, “I killed a hollow man, but I saw the Bitter Rose and tomorrow, I shall go to look for it.” Old Who-Knos became grave. Far off he saw one misfortune after another coming in procession. He said, “Watch out, for the Hollow men, they will seek vengeance. They cannot enter our world, but they can come up to the surface of things… Beware of the surface of things!”

At dawn the next day Who-lay-Who-lay gave a great cry, rose up and ran to the mountain. At the foot of the red cliff lay Mo’s garments, his ropes, and hatchet, and his metal with the cross… his body was no longer there.  “Ho,” she cried running back, “They killed your brother, and they killed my son.” He rose up with his teeth clinched and skin tightening on his scalp, he took his hatchet and prepared to set out, when his father said to him, “First… listen to me… This is what you have to do. The Hollow-men have taken your bother and changed him into a hollow man. He will try to escape; he will go in search of light to the serac of the clear glacier. Put his metal around your neck as well as your own. Go to him and strike at his head, enter the form of his body and Mo will live again among us. Do not fear to kill a dead man.”

Ho gazes wide eye into the clear blue of the glacier , is the light playing tricks on him…? Are his eyes deceiving him…. Or is he really seeing what he sees? He watches silvery forms with arms and legs like greased divers under water. There is his brother Mo, his hollow shape fleeing from a thousand hollow-men in pursuit, but they are afraid of the light. Mo’s form seeks the light and rises in the large blue serac turning round and around as if in search of a door . Despite his bursting heart and the blood clotting in his veins, Ho steps forward. To his blood and to his heart he says, “Do not fear to kill a dead man!”.. then he strikes the head shattering the ice. Mo’s form becomes motionless. Ho opens the ice of the serac and enters his brother’s form, like a sword fitted into its sheath, a foot into its imprint. He moves his elbows and works himself into place, then draws his legs back out of the mold of ice. And he hears himself saying words in a language he has never spoken. He feels he is Ho and that he is Mo at the same time.  All Mo’s memories have entered his mind, in the way up Cloudy Head, where the Bitter Rose has its habitation.

With the circle and cross around his neck he comes to Who-lay-Who-lay, “Mother you will have no more trouble telling us apart. Mo and Ho are now in the same body. I am your only son. Mo-Ho.” Old Who-Knos sheds a few tears…and his face showed happiness, but there was still one doubt he wished to dispel. He said to Mo-Ho, “You are my only son, Ho and Mo can no longer be distinguished.” Mo-Ho told him with conviction, “Now I can reach the Bitter Rose. Mo knows the way, Ho the right gesture. Master of my fears I shall have the flower of discernment.“ He picked the flower, he received the teaching, and Old Who-Knos was able to leave this world peacefully.

My commentary which is neither here nor there, as this writing above is about specific things, which I do not know in the way that the writer composed it. So it may not be faithful to the writers understanding, but it is just my ideas, which was evoked by hearing and writing the above as a task, word by word. So my commentary, will be an attempt to put into words what I derived personally from the story, with the Work that the writer engaged in and what I myself know about scripture.

Mo and Ho is the divided form of “Homo”, which is the latin word for “Man”. Man, in this story taken as a full embodiment of harmonious function and harmonious segregation, a whole that is no longer divided against itself. In the gospel, Yeshua says, “A kingdom divided can not stand…” and in another place he says, “If your eye is single your whole body will be full of light… but if it is evil it will be full of darkness,” evil taken here as a point to division and separation. On the second day, God did not say it was good — division, although necessity, creates friction and suffering, as the dichotomy between the two finds its character or expression in the existence of its opposite. Undoubtedly, like a form seeing its reflection, it is drawn into what is its likeness in relation to something else. And what assumes after is a dual condition of yes and no, or that which affirms and that which denies… that which acts/moves and that which reflects/reposes/repels.

So you have a ground for conflict, suffering, and friction. But like the tree of knowledge of good and evil, growth only takes place when such a dichotomy exists, as there is no growth without context of “i” or “It” in relation to something else. And this dichotomy in man exists, because for anything to be truly whole and compete, there must be inner agreement, made perfect through a medium of exchanges, since a change from one side can not truly be a possibility without a change in the other. Growth must take place from both ends of the spectrum — or else fullness is an impossibility, since the product that is fullness, is an vertical element which is developed, nourished, and expanded, based on the developmental process taking place between the two.

Young Ho and Mo are twins, functions of different characterizations in a man in question marks. Young Mo deals with theories, it deals with the map, the concepts. It can know of a way, but it can only intellectualize that way — imagine about it, which is not the same as walking it — and trapped in the voids and emptiness which comes with the trappings of having knowledge introduced into you that is not yet your own. In the gospel, before the rich young ruler could follow Yeshua he had to give away all he had accumulated in this world, this was referring to the philosophizing and mindsets that come with the education that this world imposes upon the mind, it’s limitations and its failings. That part of us becomes an Hollow-man, or has always been one, only know that we try, do we realize the predicament of our organic nature. Young Mo, on the other hand, has the boat, the practicality. Knows the motions, and through the work, has made his intellectual voids have real form — and now with his mind and body, he can now obtain a real conscience, and live in a state of consciousness towards his own inner workings and manifestations.

The Law of Octaves NOT The Law of Piano

The Law of Octaves is not The Law of Piano

Recently it became abundantly clear by a certain critic of The Law of Octaves that the concepts on which the significant Law of Octaves stands, have moved me to offer a humble writing on the character of the Law of Octaves and its interval, mostly for inquiry. Not that I truly need to, this Law has been known for a very long time by mystics of nearly every era. It was perhaps first made publicly known through Pythagoras, hidden in plain sight in the biblical and associated scriptures, discussed by many mystics of old, and some of contemporary times.  But one does not need to read anything to know of these Laws, that indwelling knowledge exists within the Being of Light, who one truly is, and one can be lead to this knowledge of Sevens, Threes, and so forth, without the need of writings. All knowledge is indwelling and it is, of course, the true meaning of Education. When I discovered the forums, I had known about the law of forces and law of seven, but in a way that would’ve been only perceivable to me at the time. So if it could be for me, it can be for anyone, who is able to have real education. But this critic does not know about this and is locked in a dogmatic box, as such, it is reasonable to write about the Law of Octaves, in this way.

The said critic was apparently a pianist, who assumed or imagined that, all because he knows the technicality of aspects of music theory, it means he could understand this Law of Octaves. More than likely, this was owed to the usage of the word “Octave”, which of course is from the latin root which translates to ‘scale of eight” (do-re-mi-fa-sol-la-Ti-do), which is often associated with the major scale of the piano and the fact that he totally missed the point of the article by Allan (see: http://nazirene.org/spiritual_meaning_of_marriage3.htm#octave), as a result of his approach to music in relationship to his doctrines of belief on the Torah. As a result, in his rebuke, he seemed more interested in explaining about music’s relationship with the Torah, then actually assessing the main point of the Law, but that is another matter.

People like him, and I mean the linear thinking types, the intellectuals who through the modern form of public education, has all but forcibly forfeited and had further usurped their essence-self and intuitive faculties, will have difficulty understanding something like the Law of Octaves in life. They have exchanged there higher faculties for rote linear thinking/conditioning via false-personalities which had their birth from such environments. This creates a sterile condition of mind, that through wrong thinking, and imbalanced connection (conditioning) to the forms that exists, where “I” is not included in their observations (all knowledge should be self knowledge), has closed up the possibilities from, again, being seen and understood. And with this barrier of dualistic thinking, i.e. “this is this and that is that” type of thinking, no greater connection to their Soul Self can even be formed, for they are already filled to the brim with the philosophies and thinking’s of our institutions of the world.

Such individuals have never been taught to truly think – to engender thought which can make way for their Soul to teach them, like a current of connection.  In the case of this Pianist, and what has been a stumbling block for many, is that they assume that the Law of Octaves is merely a Law of Piano and get stuck in the piano, seeing the tree for the forest.  But ironically, if you have read the Article by Allan (http://americanspirituality.divinestrategery.com/#LawOfOctaves) , you would be able to quickly see, that this flaw of getting stuck in the piano, is a very working of this Law upon their thinking, where they see only the part, that the law can be presented in a piano only because the Law is present in everything, as a whole, due to their own unique organic barriers, which has yet to be overcome or straightened out.

The Law of Octaves, in its actions, is immutable, inevitable, and exists even if you chose to accept it or not and the fact that you can’t recognize it, is proof of its action upon you. And this is not an insult, but a natural fundamental law’s movement upon the Laws of creation and creations natures. Not only is clearly visible in all, it can be measured and heard with ones ear via music instruments, but more specifically, string instruments. This Law is of immense significance to all who wish to really achieve anything beyond the natural limitations which are imposed upon them. It is chemistry, as it even uses it as a law of its science, the law of Octaves – it is in physics, in the color spectrum, in the ordering of the days of the week, in process of cellular structure formation — that are bodies, in their cells, are renewed/changed every 7 years, Seven Spiritual centers/major glands, etc.

The law of octaves proposes, as a principle role of its action or force, that all things and processes will be moved gradually in its intensity, as nothing goes on forever in one way, but at certain points, a direction of change will take place. This change is where the movement and or action, will be redirected, disconnected, twisted, deviated, or must be developmentally increased with super efforts. The sentiments of this Law is expressed beautifully by songwriter, Bob Dylan, where he says “…he not busy being born is busy dying,” and further paraphrased in film, “Get busy living or get busy dying”. P.D.Ouspensky, in The Fourth Way, said,” It means that no process in the world goes without interruptions… The Law of Seven shows that no force can develop in one direction and shows the places where these changes or retardations occur.

This sentiment of the Law is expressed in music due to the frequency of sound and vibrations relationship to the Law. Everything in life represents a specific expression of thought in vibration, and the Law of Octaves, in its essence, is a Law of vibration – and if we look above, it is more specifically, a Law on the process of vibrations change, stops, and twists, to quote G.I. Gurdjieff, in “Fragments of a Forgotten Truth,” “In order to understand the meaning of this law it is necessary to regard the universe as consisting of vibrations… These vibrations”, he continues,” develop in a regular way only for a certain time…   But at a certain moment a kind of change takes place in it and the vibrations… slow down and… change their nature or direction.” So if this is the case, all aspects of life, both within us and outside of us, is subject to, inevitable points in their progression where the momentum, rate, or condition naturally regresses, and departs from what was its normal state from its beginning or its path.  What this means, upon the octave movement, which start straight, will at a certain point, twist and turn out of alignment. And since all things are vibrating, thus moving, and nothing is truly still, then all succumb to the dynamics of this Law. Seekers, for instance, may start out sincere, only to become disillusioned into the idea that they have found, and are actually very far from finding.

Since all of life succumbs to the dynamics of this fundamental law, which in our case, the most important of our observations of the law dealing with how it moves upon our mind and being, then it becomes vital to understand and connect to the scaling of its steps. Even if it is not a law of piano, it was said that essentially the musical scale in how it is ordered was added with the knowledge of the Law of octaves in mind, but that is another matter, not to deviate – pun intended. To continue, in the musical scale there is only actually 7 steps, do-re-mi-fa-sol-la-ti, to the process instead of 8. Each step could be thought of as a deflection, which deflects the momentum of the initial action, which jump-started the octave, i.e. an active force – an affirming desire, thought, or need. (As well, each note in succession is in itself an octave. Think of fractals, how fractals are self replicating patterns, octaves work a similar way.)

The passage of the vibration from the 7th note, Ti, into the 8th note, Do, is a passage of completion – what this means is that the last Do is the beginning of a higher octave, so that the last Do is double the vibration of the first. So the passing over from the first Do to the last, is a process of bringing completion to the Alpha Do of whatever process or condition is being moved by the Law — everything between the beginning and end is merely the striving/gradual possible fulfilling of what was initiated in the beginning – The product in the beginning being developed to reach its fulfillment.

Since I don’t imagine everyone reading this to be a musician, I will impart, what an interval is from my brief reading of it. Vibrations are the pulsations of energy and are scaled by its rates and strengths. Intervals are where vibrations differing in their rates or frequency come together. So, in this case, the whole Octave could be thought of as an Interval. But in the Law of Octaves, when the word interval is used, it is used in connection with the difference of acceleration which happens between the 3rd – 4th  (mi-fa) interval and the 7th — 8th  (Ti-Do), or to put more simply, where octavic twisting happens. To quote from, Fragments of a Forgotten Truth,

The differences in the acceleration or increase in the notes or the difference in tone will be as follows:

between do and re (9/8 : 1) = 9/8

between re and mi (5/4 : 9/8) = 10/9

between mi and fa (4/3 : 5/4) = 16/15 increase retarded

between fa and sol (3/2 : 4/3) = 9/8

between sol and la (5/3 : 3/2) = 10/9

between la and si (15/8 : 5/3) == 9/8

between si and do (2 : 15/8) = 16/15 increase again retarded

“The differences in the notes or the differences in the pitch of the notes are called intervals. We see that there are three kinds of intervals in the octave: 9/8, 10/9, and 16/15, which in whole numbers correspond to 405, 400, and 384. The smallest interval 16/15 occurs between mi and fa and between si and do. These are precisely the places of retardation in the octave.”

The Intervals, in this law, are the inevitable points of change in the process of all things, and it is at the point of the interval where the Law of Octaves gets its most defining and perhaps essential character. In the above, what is being described is the change in momentum, where the vibration is halved or changes in its momentum. In other words, the twisting occurs. The intervals between the steps in the octave could be thought of as gravitation points, where the movement is drawn in, and effects the movement of the next step. In other words, the step before initiates/begins the step after it, but the interval is where they interact, or are drawn together. But it is the key intervals, the third-fourth and seventh and eighth, where the twisting happens.

It is, between these key intervals, why mankind, as a whole, walks the Broadway of self destruction and cannot walk through the straight gate to the inner kingdom. But this is not only applied to higher spiritual objectives/ideals in life, it is the reason why things which people do never seem to finish for the most part… why relationships fall apart, why religious movements and social organizations become their opposite, and why anything under the activity of human experience and outside of it, never goes straight, but moves off into other directions, even turning about and becoming its complete opposite.

With the interval, ones aims twists away from their straight trajectory, becoming reversed. Think of a person setting out to shoot a target, but only finding a boomerang in their hand. When the boomerang is thrown straight it inevitably twist back to the thrower. This reserved octave movement ends with the aim being thrown back into its beginning, but now moving upon a reserved octave of illusion of moving straight or fulfilling the aim when involution is what is truly taking place. What one becomes locked in at this point, is a movement similar to the infinity sign, moving back and forth, which is to say, making no progress. In the Phillip Gospel this has been touched upon,  “An ass which turns a millstone did a hundred miles walking. When it was loosed, it found that it was still at the same place. There are men who make many journeys, but make no progress towards any destination. When evening came upon them, they saw neither city nor village, neither human artifact nor natural phenomenon, power nor angel. In vain have the wretches labored.”

Ultimately, the enigmatic interval is the major test for all that falls under human activity. It is a point of testing, the testing of what has been developing along the process of the first steps — DO-RE-MI. As you may notice, DO-RE-MI is a triad and this triad is consistent with the Divine Pattern of Creation, which could be thought of as a law of content, i.e. everything has permeating in it the Active, Reflective, and Third Forces, while the Law of octaves relate to progress. So combining of DO-RE-MI in this way is just showing that the pattern is represented in the motions of the octave.

This is why it is a Divine Pattern, which can be said to be God’s signature found in even the smallest of phenomena. DO-RE-MI is DO-ACTIVE/the initial movement, thought, desire, need… RE-REFLECTIVE/the action being reflected back on itself, how do you fulfill the desire, need, thought… MI-NEUTRALIZING/what reconciles the action with the reflection. From these one can begin to see how practically they can apply this to any new thing they do, for after every action, there is a reflected one. With this, one can begin to understand that things are not automatic before the interval of mi-fa – and there are efforts to be made, before or better said, IF, one can even get to that point – if we are considering ideals of attainment. DO-RE-MI is the forerunner efforts, which is necessary to even hope to make the path straight for the coming of help – if we are referring to trying to achieve inner development.

The law of progress or Octaves defines for us the character of how all things move, no matter how great or small, there is a natural “path” by which all things MUST travel, and by which all vibration inevitably develops upon. Due to this and the forces of the Divine Pattern of Creation, it can be said; there is only ONE way to completion. Thus the Octave becomes the necessary struggle which measures your real progress.

The interval between MI-FA, where discord and illusion exists, according to how this “process” acts upon our own organic nature, is ever present, again, if one accepts it or not. In life there is always something which tends to cause a “falling” of what we want. Naturally, as things start they are strong, but as they continue further, they begin to slow, stop, and even flip flop. This is similar to how people typically start something in good intentions only to have those intentions turn into its opposite, and at worst, having no awareness that this twisting has occurred. In life, a man can go on and on in this illusion of making progression and right decisions, only to have found themselves in worst sorts then they were when they even began. The scriptures call for a seeker to make their “last works greater than the first” – or, “I am the first and the last”, the acknowledgement of the completion of the Octaves. In the Thomas Gospel we read, For this reason I say, if the owners of a house know that a thief is coming, they will be on guard before the thief arrives and will not let the thief break into their house (their domain) and steal their possessions. As for you, then, be on guard against the world. Prepare yourselves with great strength, so the robbers can’t find a way to get to you, for the trouble you expect will come. Let there be among you a person who understands.” Each person, ought to be watchful of the Law of Octaves, so they don’t suffer lose, and find their end worst than when they started out.

(For instance, to use a common circumstance, let’s say there is a person who is in a relationship. In the beginning things were great for them, but the inevitable testing comes, they come to an impasse. Due to things which test their own willingness to make personal changes for the betterment of their significant other, their own organic limitations causes them to not see how their actions are flawed, and that making proper changes would benefit the growth of the union. In this state of illusion, they make choices that they think are proper to make, which have the effect of actually undoing their relationship. In the end, being stuck in this illusion of being right, they are maintain in this undeveloped state completely oblivious, or reaffirmed of their illusionary sense of rightness. As a result they squandered away the opportunity to make a change in self, which would have given power to the relationship, and thus brought it to a more fulfilling state, but now they are moving backwards, thinking they are moving forward. So, for this hypothetical person, they are in a process of involution now whereas before there was prospect for evolution.)

When the law of Octaves is applied to humanity it acts upon each individual person’s nature/condition. What this means is that our organic nature creates the conditions and need for the interval. If all people were perfect, then there would be no interval, for it would have worked itself out already. But since all people are being propelled, developmentally, towards their omega of being, being divided, the law acts upon them — as the laws ask for resolution in the dynamics of their layered being. It is the organic condition, which creates the illusion, as this law works upon it — man does not see things as they are. With the example of the piano, there is no full step between the mi and fa, but yet we hear the illusion of it being full to us. In a similar manner, the whole world is a stage and or schoolhouse, but does not appear to most to be so; they do not know they are in a play, where their life is scripted before they were end born — for this too is a cause of this organic limitation.

The interval makes a man think and feel he is “right, whole, developed, complete” when he is still “very wrong, very divided, very underdeveloped, and very incomplete”, even to the degree that one can destroy all that they have built, thinking they are making the right choices. In the gospel of Thomas, Yeshua says, on when the Kingdom will come, “It will not come by watching for it. It will not be said, ‘Look, here!’ or ‘Look, there!’ Rather, the Father’s kingdom is spread out upon the earth, and people don’t see it.” – and the reason why man cannot see it, is owed to the Law of Octaves acting upon them, in connection with their own organic condition. That saying, of course, referring to the reality that the seemingly concrete world we see is not at all, and what the forms of this world really are objectively are never truly seen, only a projection, which offers only a small fraction of its nature which is often ones own organic projections which they perceive as an accurate portrayal of whole reality. Natural man sees only what these laws allow ordinary.

The question becomes, what can we do about it? What is needed to transcend this impasse, of the enigmatic interval, or the barrier stands before us, behooving us to face our own limitations of mind and being? In many religions the idea of being in submission to a higher source of power to make it through difficulties is often mentioned. With the interval, a force is needed which can take them to the other side – a help must come from above the state that one is in. If one was addicted to drugs and they wanted to stop, they would not be successful by going to a person afflicted with the same sickness for help. The blind cannot lead the blind and the same exists for one’s own development, if they imagine that they, existing in the illusion can somehow produce results that are not a part of that illusion, they are fooling themselves.  One can’t do what is outside of their capacities at the level they are at.

Help can’t come from your “organic nature”; a force above it must be there to lift it. You must meet it half way, that is to say, prepare for it by opening to the possibility at the right time to be taken pass what your organic limitation previously did not allow. What exist beyond FA is “higher” and that which is “higher” is descending to YOU or that opportunity is placed before you, one of which presents a higher life and a higher possibility of a reality that eludes your momentary perception due to the limitation imposed upon your mind. This concept of help provides that an escape or a way of growth, is always given, as every difficult upon the octave and interval is proportionate to what is possible to be handled individually, No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it..” (1 Corinth 10:13) For instance, the addict must have help from something or someone who is beyond that point and help will exists for this to happen. In the case of self development, there will be others who can help you, and ultimately one’s own Soul-Self, which is ones god, if one draws nigh unto it.

If one is aware of the Enneagram, they will understand, why I am suggesting “help comes from above”.  The Enneagram is a symbol of Law, it shows the dynamic relationship between both the Law of Octaves which Gurdjieff called heptaparaparshinokh, and the Divine Pattern, which Gurdjieff again called, Triamazikmno. But there is more, what is also being represented in the circle, is the Law of one or The All and the Nothing, the Unity and the Segmentation, which the whole works from the point of.

In the above symbol, you will see the Law of octaves or 7 related in the movement of the line from 1–>4–>2–>8–>5–>7–>1. While the Law of Three is represented in 3,6,9.

The above is a more developed version of the enneagram, in it we see multiple octaves in succession, which fill the interval for each other. If we further applied the symbol of the Octave to man and his spiritual centers, what is represented in the above is the movement of overcoming the natural energy outputs in the organic body that feeds nature. The natural laws only takes mans development to a certain point for the bodies organic needs, but they can not overcome the interval for man, as the body only supports what its vibration naturally allows. In this symbol, we see that the body has in its pattern the possibility, partially and under special conditions, to develop this energy by straightening the natural organic twists, and introduce or develop a higher expanded  state of consciousness in the man. But this possibility of growth also shows the natural limits in the body, which maintains only a very limited condition of mind and being naturally — only that which provides for rudimentary biological needs.

Now if you look at the relationship of the laws in that symbol, you will notice something… the points where the triangle falls, are the points where the intervals are — and each point of the triangle is taken as Do, or the beginning of a new octave. Help comes from the point of a new octave and it is taken as a third force, being a point on the triangle. The 3 and the 6, in this example, can be said to come from a transcending point in 9, where the beginning and ending of the circle is.

In considering the above on help, it is important to understand that this difficulty can be overcome through one’s own efforts. That after sometime, as one works through the lower triad of the octave (DO-MI-FA), that eventually they can “build” a force, through extraneous efforts, in themselves, which can connect them to something higher more. What one builds or develops within self can be said to be “above” the limitation, having expanded beyond it. But this is a part of the process of “meeting help half way”.

In the interval, there exists a pivotal moment for real development. This moment one will not know for sure until they get a taste for it through observation that comes before it.  To taste this moment is to get an inner sensing, that intuitively you can feel and become conscious of. In that moment, is the moment for real change. It is only on the cusp, when you are standing between the lower (think of your organic and lower nature), how you have always been, and the higher, what it is possible for you to be, that you can move the lower onward in its progression, help will be there. So, if one is working with the octave, and they which to straighten out the octave, what they are doing is attempting to provide the semi-tones, where there are none, as Ouspensky in Fourth Way, said, With certain kinds of effort we can produce these missing semi-tones, fill the intervals and in this way change the work of our machine. “ In the development of the Octave, the interval can only be straightened, by an octave, i.e. creating a whole or semi-tones, where they are missing. If I had a weakness to a certain addicted personality, I would need to work a great deal to maintain consciousness, in order to move it forward, at the pivotal moment when the twisting happens — the interval. But of course, forerunner efforts need to be made, so that one can be in the position to move that personality onward towards evolution and not send the whole of me into involution by its wants. In the example of religious movements that become their opposite, preventing this natural twisting, a multitude would need consciousness to straightened it.

With what has been said in the above we can begin to form a much bigger picture, not just the tree of a forest, but the whole, as the Law of Octaves is something that is experienced throughout the WHOLE. With this understanding it becomes clearer why this is not a Law of Piano, but is simply one of the ways it can be illustrated. The Piano is essentially a string instrument, as its sounds/tones are created by hammers hitting the many strings within it. And while it is known commonly as a hybrid of string and percussion, it is in the strings that the tones are sourced in, which means musically, one can see and connect to this law better with string only instruments, as was demonstrated by Allan, which made me want to learn how to play the acoustic guitar.

After that demonstration I searched for some knowledgeable videos on playing the guitar. I stumbled upon a video of a musician, who had a knowledge of the Law of Octaves, he suggested that the Piano abandoned a lot of its mystical nature, with the changes to its instrument (perhaps temperaments?) whereas the guitar has it preserved in its structure, the cycle of fourths and fifths, which i know nothing about. This is all hearsay, and unless I was there at that time (the construction of the piano), I can’t accurately verify such a claim, but what Allan suggested, was another matter and it is what sparked my mind, and that was, to paraphrase, that with a piano you can’t see what is going on (with the twist of the octave), but with the guitar you can see the strings, and see what is happening with the octave. I interpret that to mean, to me; With the piano one hears, with the guitar one hears and sees. So what can a piano man say of all this?

What man has left behind from youth

What man has left behind from youth

Has the thought ever entered your mind, upon observing children at different stages of their development, why it seems that as they grow older a certain attribute of their youth diminishes? As if something has begun to cover an important element over, which we adults often identify as innocence? Those children, of a very young age, appear to be in a state where they do not look at life and individuals with the trappings that we do; there is a color in their expression, a sort of magic.

It is not necessarily wrong, to identify it as innocence, as this categorization is the result of attempting to place what one simply does not know, but can only seem to feel. Adults can feel a difference in children, as they were once children, and they can connect to the personalities that are connected to their childhood, and by doing so, they can mildly experience a nostalgia, a closeness to “something” which does not feel that evident in their common experiences now, which in all intents and purposes, has all but disappeared in their internal life.

This “something” is other worldly, if other worldly is related to this level of being, the world of man, and the world of man does not at all relate to this something, only to what is its own. At the level of man, we find the organic activities of a consciousness which finds its activity in relation to the forms which exists within its field of perception. In other words, the world of man deals with the lower level of mind, the personalities of that lower level, and the body, which the mind is hinged by the vibration of to function at that lower level. The Laws of Nature only takes man so far in its growth, it’s up to man to develop the mind from this default state by the Laws.

The World of Man, in short is designed to meet the needs of the segmented mind and its possible expansion/birth. Being a mental womb, it’s purposes is to give the mind the conditions, much like the physical womb, to grow and expand, and reach its full germination – it’s birth. The issue is that due to the World of Man appealing to the lower fragments of mind, results in these fragmentation’s supplanting essence-self for its birthright, which is to grow and manifest. The level of mind most exists within, gives rise to personalities, which although in many cases manifest due to the work that has to be achieved within the life they are living, totally covers over that something which is evident from birth, and perhaps can be felt from conception inside the mother, I am not a woman so I would have to ask a woman about this… but from my memories of being in the womb, I believe my mom could feel my essence.

At conception, which is the joining of the generating Sperm and the reflective Ovum, a kernel of the Soul-self becomes imprinted upon the resulting Zygote of the union. This Kernel is known as the essence-self, or the embryonic-image, which is the physical self of the upper heavenly kingdoms, sometimes portrayed as the Prodigal Son. The fullness of the Soul-self can not normally manifest in a physical body that can only support the vibration of its 3 dimensional nature, and the mind of the body, which normally is maintained to a lower point of human consciousness, cannot support its multidimensional and all-compassing reality in its polarized, undeveloped, and disharmonious state. In short the lower mind is simply not expanded to have the Soul-self be born in it, and the expansion of the lower mind depends on the transformation of the vibration associated with the physical body.

There is a dichotomy that is at play here, between The Essence-self and that which can be termed as ego-personality. The Ego-personality is the false personality of the lower mind, which gains strength over the Essence-Self, depending on the power of its connections to the world. The Essence-Self is that part of self which is a person’s authentic personality, which one parts from, usually but not exclusively, as everyone is different, at the age of 5 or 4. It so happens that at this age, man reaches the default maturing of a normally functioning motor, speech, and learning processes necessary to interact in the society of man. At this point gradually, as one comes more into the artificiality of their ego-personality, the more essence-self moves into a subconscious state. And this process of the gradual strengthening and fragmentation of ego-personality happens through education. This of course is not just the education of public school systems, but education can mean any outer influential source/presence or impressions that makes connections to points in personality causing further divisions and shifting. A proper education is needed, as the personalities should be strengthened in the positive and healthy way with their connections to the earth.

If you plant a seed in soil, and the soil doesn’t become suitable for the growth of the seed, it remains (in embryo), having never been able to manifest. The essence-self/embryonic images natural growth becomes atrophied when the ego-personality of lower mind becomes further strengthened, in an unhealthy way which is counter to ones Soul-self and the mind ceasing to never expand, due in part to ego-personality having never been developed. This atrophying process that takes place in a person is to such a degree that their essence-self is a total non-factor in their existence, it can be said that they don’t even have a Soul and it doesn’t mean they have to be what people would determine the worst type of person, and it’s a common condition. When you interact with people, you are interacting with a certain fragments out of the aggregations of personalities that make up their personality, which is a collective.

But although the above exist, the essence-self has a continual interconnectedness with ones Soul-Self, via a portal, a tunnel which maintains its connectedness. In short, while the essence-self would exist as a seed implanted within the mind, it is still within the reality of its Soul-self, via its connection and point in the soul-self – Quantum Entanglement comes to mind. This may seem like a paradox, but we exist within the mind of our soul-self, and there is nothing that is not mind. Like the parable of the sower and seed, the seed although thrown to the earth, maintains its reality as a seed within the tree it had fallen from. And this mental seed was implanted within the organic condition of the mind for its own development and this development is dependent upon the richness and purity of the soil. And this soil also acts like a protective film, shell for the seed of essence-self — the image of a nut which is resting within its protective outer shell comes to mind, or the flesh of a fruit which crowds its seeds.

The further one moves away from their birthright from their Soul Self, the essence-self, to ego-personality which may be totally involved (and influenced) in the sensations and vibrations of the lower natures and mindsets of this world, the further one is away from their Soul-Self. Some lives are so far removed, there is nothing that can be done for them, no matter the manipulation by the soul-self to reach them, and sometimes even massive shocks are not enough. It would be like laying cement over the unsuitable soil, but of course if there is enough moisture, even a plant can break through the cracks, but of course that takes a long time, and not a single life for such a person whose development is via the left hand of correction, that seem to not be able to turn that hand over to the right.

The only question is, what is it like to see or experience through essence-self? Since man is so withdrawn from his birthright, essence-self, he exists on autopilot – mechanically and thus far away from essence-self. But while man is asleep, his physical body and its appetites go into a doormat function, and it frees up the essence-self — as the functions related to the body go to slumber, the essence-self has less constraint. There has been the saying that dreams are a doorway to the soul, and while this is true, it is also a time where lucid dreaming is possible and essence self can go off to plan what needs to be accomplished for the next day with others. But one doesn’t have to be asleep to experience an attribute of essence-self… When one is able and capable to induce conscious-awareness, one is able to experience an attribute of essence-self. Whereas children only naturally experience an attribute of essence-self, an adult can experience this reality on a whole other scale, if they develop further this conscious-attribute.

In conscious-awareness one can begin to see through the essence-self, and see with eyes beyond the organic vision, the dull color of life is changed to glowingly bright forms — and with gradual maintenance, the other uniqueness of man and the laws upon man, can be seen in very DIRECT ways. It can not be diminished that, each of us, are dwelling within a big dream of our soul-selves. Just like in dreams, one can awaken, and gain control of the dream and utilize the dream to bring in themselves new capacities — to help overcome something difficult in their life, one can awaken in life to the conscious-awareness via their essence-self and achieve the same, and even more, during their waking state – like a waking lucid state.

Quelling the Mutiny

Now upon the stage we find our Actor walking about being idle. The teacher noticing this idleness, walks before him and speaks thus: Boy, I have quite a story to tell you! It will help you to come to terms with certain practices which are key in understanding the process of development of conscious-acting upon the stage of life. So this story or parable is designed with this aim in mind. After I finish this tale, I will ask you questions, so that you, through your own opinion and capacity, can explain the reality which this story is concealing. So take a sit and listen well…

The name of this parable is called:

Quelling the Mutiny

There was once a great ship which had a multitude of workers/crewmen, with a very wise Captain/Navigator at the helm. Through certain travels, the crew had grown restless. In the beginning of the Captains travels he started out very simple. It was just him on a little boat. But he would stop by places that his father told him about in his youth; the wonders and glories of different lands and cultures. While doing so he would pick people with an interest in joining him in his travels. After sometime, the number of people increased greatly, and thus his small ship became a large one of many members.

When one is on the high seas they may be away from their relationships, wants, and cares for a while with really no telling when they will be reunited with such. But the travels to the various destinations are important for everyone on the ship, as these travels are the source of their money. But nevertheless the crew was very restless. Eventually, they came up with a plan, they decide to capture the navigator/captain and throw him into holding and so they could then take over the helm and go wherever they wanted, to fulfill their own desires. So they one night when the Navigator was resting while the ship was anchored, drugged him in order to make him unconscious, so there would be no struggle, after which they locked him in holding.

Meanwhile the crewmen by night were joyous because now they could go wherever they wanted. But an odd occurrence happened. When they approached the helm, every one of them put forth their hand to direct it. Shocking, everyone thought. They did not anticipate this occurring, that all of them can not take the helm at once, which means that only one of them could steer the ship at a time. As they were all born in different locals in the world each with different wants and desires as far as places they wanted to go. Many of them also were not efficient in navigating a ship and anyways even if they wanted to navigate the ship, every one of them wanted to as well, which meant that the jobs they once did which helped to keep everything moving such as maintaining it, fixing of the foods, and the labors in assisting the navigation no one did anymore. Everyone seemed to want to be the leader. What a conundrum! They could not come to any conclusions amongst each other. As a result they became desperate and fighting broke out amongst them. They would steal the helm from each other whenever they were compelled to by staring out at the seas and imagining or seeing the thing they wanted the most.

Each minuet this would happen, which meant that none of the crewmen were getting any closer to the thing that they thought they wanted, in fact the ship made little progress in any direction. And with everyone wanting their turn at the helm, backstabbing and being underhanded, none of their jobs were done which meant that gradually they began to waste their food and the ship itself started to come to ruin. It most be noted that the crew were not evil men, it\’s just that in such circumstances, they all began to react in a state of desperation, each in the way that is accustomed to their nature when under strain and in want.

While this continuous munity happened there were some of the crew who had already held higher positions on the ship and had a capacity to reason that there must be a better way. They thought, reasonably, we have been here for a long time now, if there was never a munity we would\’ve reached at least some destination, got shelter, and been at least feed. Our last state, AS A WHOLE, would\’ve been better than our first. And in addition the Destination our Captain spoke of was a very rich place that is said to be in the Light of the Sun all year round, almost as if there is no more changing of the seasons. So these reasonable men decided that somehow they must get to the captain and free him. But they could not do so forcibly against such a mad mob with all their agenda\’s moving them to act the way they do individually from each other. The only thing they could do was band together and stay very alert.

Things came to a point where the fighting simply consumed the crewman. They didn\’t even know why they were fighting anymore, due to this at times they would have to pause to remember what was the purpose of their fighting. In these pauses, the small band of reasonable crewman could bring to the others attention in what state the whole of the ship had fallen.  That no progress was made and about how the destination that they would\’ve reached, that they did not know about, was vast and has great prospects for us all — not just our captain. While some of these reasonable crewmen distracted the mad men with these talks about their predicament in these periods, one of them would slyly steer the helm.  Others of the reasonable crewman, would help in the ways which they were knowledgeable about. Little by little they were making progress and the one who would \”slyly\” steer to make these little movements of progress actually started to become quite good at steering due to the experience acquired. He had come to adapt to the various forces of the waves and winds while doing this. But the progression, while having some, was not a great deal. So these reasonable men having persuaded many, that one among them had learned to steer the ship better than any of us and should be the new head of the helm, since being one of us lowly crewman, he would navigate for our own NEEDS. The rest of the crewman who had gone mad, could see how this was a good prospect for them, and they agreed that he should navigate for THEM.

It got to the point that each of the crewmen, having left behind their selfish ideas, began to see that they all could be fulfilled in someway if they reached the destination that the captain had originally made for them. Having done so, the newest replacement captain, gaining the trust of the crew over a certain period of time, that he persuaded them that the Captain should be freed since only he knew the destination.  So having freed him and feed him, bringing him back to full strength they approached the helm. The difference this time was that many followed under the replacement navigator, who was one of them, who was now the first matey of the renewed Captain.

The procedure upon the ship became thus: the Captain interacted with the crew through the first matey. And with this order of command things moved smoothly. Each did their work to reach the same destination; from crew to first mate to Captain. And it would be this way, until all of the crewmen would follow the directions of their Captain working together for the common destination.

And that concludes the tale…

The Teacher becomes very silent for a few minuets while our Actor sits, pondering the story, contemplating it with what he has already learned thus far on the stage.

The Teacher looking at our Actor, speaks: Well come on boy, we don\’t have all day!

Nervously our Actor says: O.. OO…Okay… right away I can sort of see a connection between the ship and the body.  The crewmen would be the content of the body, that formed through experience? In past talks it was suggested that the past leaves an imprint upon us, that various parts of our organic-personality become, as it were, shackled to different past moments and live for those moments alone, despite whatever it is that we ought to be doing now. I can see this in the analogy of the Navigator starting out small, but with each travel collecting adding a new crewman with him. Am I close?

The Teacher responds: That\’s some good thinking you got going on there, sounds good to me… but remember not to box in your own thought. The ship can be the body, you have to keep in mind that all of life is holographic. The body is a pattern that is made dense, our mind is the source of the body from one perspective. So it can be said, while the body can be the ship, since its source is in the mind, i.e. that the pattern we see in the body is nothing more than a projected mental image of the pattern which the mind is formed in, it can also be said that the ship represents the mind, roughly. Each crewman can be seen as exactly what you suggest here, segments of the organic-personality which exist within their own time.

The mind then becomes a fractured \”consciousness\” of many different systems, like that of the body. Only difference here is that it\’s density is much different, and the organs which it has are organs which deal with perception, perspective, thought, impressions, and state of consciousness of MAN. Each organ of the mind houses certain personalities, an aggregation of many segments which a person calls \”I\”. In the same manner that the body has 12 organs, so does the mind, polarized from right to left, under the holy forces, of Active and Reflective — or Male and female.

The Teacher pauses for a second to look at our Actor and investigate his state of mind through his various mannerisms and asks:

What do you think about the crewman and their shock when reaching for the  helm all tried at once?

Our Actor: It was interesting, I believe this has to do with the fact that  the personalities can only occupy the head of a person by turn.

The Teacher responds: Yes this is true…

One thing that a would be \”conscious actor\” must notice is how only ONE crewman could navigate the ship at a time. With the characters of personality, a person lives in their last shifting of personality. Only one character of personality can take the lead at a time — hence the shock of the crewman. From experience, evoked by stimulus, does associations unwind like a scroll upon the floor. One personality while being at the helm or in control, another which is \”subconscious\” can be evoked into the moment, due to the law of associations, that everything has a relationship to something — but it can not take the helm or position of control at the same time. The most important thing here, which I believe is being missed, is that emotion actually is triggered before thought. Perception opens, immediately are emotional associations triggered, then the personality which is identified with that emotion is consumed with it, since it has a certain relationship with it.

In the story where do you believe this is presented?

Our Actor: When each of the crewman, remembering or experiencing moments from the places they were from and this desire moved them to take the wheel.

The Teacher: That sounds fine to me…  I have another question, what of the Captain? What does he represent, young one?

Our Actor looking a little bit confused, looks to his teacher to help him through.

The Teacher noticing this, decides to give him a hint: Well… remember what I explained about \”I\”, how there is an \”I\” that stands behind the organic-personality and what I don\’t see myself as?

Our actor responds: Yes. I remember this.

The Teacher: Well think of this.

Our Actor: Okay. So this Captain is the \”I\” of a person before they formed personality. That essential part which existed before what was counterfeit covered it. I guess the crewmen locking away this essential part of a person, is an example of how personality moves this essential part into a passive and inactive role in the life of a person.

Our Teacher: For sure. This essential part is called by many names, sometimes erroneously called \”soul\”. It is not a \”Soul\”. Rather it can be called the \”essence-self\”. It is that part of self, that one was \”born with\”, it is the real and authentic \”physical self\”, more authentic then the body you were given from your mother. But since we are going with the word counterfeit for a region of personality, lets call this \”essence -self\” the Authentic self. When each person was born, their birth right was this authentic self, as they acquired it from a higher level of being, one of which could be accurately called \”Soul\”. The authentic self comes from the \”Soul\”, you may remember me explaining how each has a Great Thespian they are a expression from, well that is what the Soul is. In this story, the destination, which has the sun year round, which is the home land of our Captain, is the Soul.

Our Actor replies: So the Soul is like our higher self?

The Teacher: Yes, but I do not like the word higher self.

Our Actor: And since this Destination does not dwell in the ship, but in another land a part from it, it goes without saying that the world/Realm of the Soul does not dwell within the body, but only a part of the land/or Soul exist in the body-mind/ship on the account of the \”Captain\” who could be seen as a \”parcel of that land\”.

The Teacher: You\’re on fire tonight, boy!

Our Actor: So then all of us, we all share one Soul???

Our Teacher: You were doing so good too.. tsk tsk tsk.

No! We do not all share \”one soul\”. Remember, all things are holographic. Each individual is an expression of a single Divine Thespian, or Soul-Self. Each person was not born with a Soul, but born from a \”Soul\”, of which they are striving to have born in them. Through transformation and inner unity can they manifest the whole of the \”Soul\” they are from into their body — Thus becoming their Divine Thespian in the flesh.

But lets not lose our place! What of the reasonable men and what of the one among them who becomes the first mate?

Our Actor: Perhaps that part of personality that wants to develop towards the same aim as the Captain. Parts of our personality that love to learn of things which are essential to development and life, knowledge which is sourced from above ordinary organic thinking. These begin to grow together and out from among them, a leader is born.

Our Teacher: Yes a leader is born or the potential leader, who carries this position until the real \”I\”, or authentic self of the physical takes over again. It must be noted, just like in our story where the captain/navigator was imprisoned, the authentic self of the physical, growth has become atrophied from the strengthening ego-personality and the overall condition of the physical condition. It\’s coming back into a position of power is through the development of the greater whole of the personality and physical condition, which gives this possibility. It is the development of the leader, which assist in this aim. The leader becomes that which \”acts\” as the authentic self until it gains its complete strength again.

If you remember, this \”Potential leader\” we call an Inner Director of the play of \”characters\” which goes on in us. This potential leader is an observing state at first, the best amongst the group of personality that is reasonable (more awareness towards a need for knowledge and the development of discernment to know what is best for them). It gains its position because it has accumulated strength and knowledge about self through studying the other characters of personality. It has recorded and measured things, it is very distinct, calculated, it does not identify with the things which are seen, but it maintains its own space a part from what is seen– as it steps back from what one has come to see themselves as. It can step in, at points, to bring to attention what is best for the person, which other personalities simply do not know nor care for.

This observing state can act with conscience, so that one feels and sees all at once what is best — in fact the standing back from self which the leader does, brings into ones life more the feeling of conscience and this conscience can help the characters of personality towards what is good. One gains an inner sensing from this instinctive intuitive center called conscience, to attract and reach for the good. In our story here, we see conscience taking root when our reasonable crewmen saw that their mutiny got them no where and they felt bad about it and once having gained understanding with others of the crew, sought to free the captain which they had a hand in binding prior. This is an act of internal grace, from personality of one polarity to another, bridging the divide which separates them.

But conscience is not dependent on a leader, for it exist already made before it. Conscience is connected to the emotional, so that one feels the objectivity of the situation which involves them despite the shifting of perspectives which come with stimuli to support ones delusions about themselves. While my mind may change, my heart feels beyond it. The germ of conscience exist in everyone and can be grown. For those who know the joy of it\’s reminder of reality through remorse, know the course of right and correct action, choices which are not justified to fit with the delusions that one sees themselves as. For there are natural barriers which exist that prevent the action of conscience and obstructs reality to always be in keeping with a single perspective that supports ones own perspective or in other words, whatever one does, will be seen opposite to what it is. When one does something wrong to another, being seen as right in their eyes, justifications will be present to obstruct the possible \”experiencing\” of self as being flawed in a situation.

This conscience, if awakened, can begin to teach the characters of organic personality how to be.  The feeling of remorse which escapes perspective, can make these fragments or characters reconsider their own thinking, or how they perceive themselves. For that pain digs at you, until you consider it, and strive to make a change. In making that change, it gives strength to the leader.

Or Actor, looking as though he is starting to \”get it\’ responds: I understand teacher. But for the sake of acting, how should I even look at the process of  attachments? How should I see this, so as to be practical in my experience?

Teacher surprised by this question answers: Well it is simple. Think of the story of crewmen, my boy, would you call it an attachment that they yearned for, care for, and want to see again those people and places that they are connected too? That our brave crewman went on the high sea, for work and adventure, so look upon these \”feelings\” as burdens? Why because there is pain in being away from it, pain over what you do not have in the \”moment\”? Personality looks ahead, it only suffers now based on the emotions that it identifies with. But this is not necessarily a good or bad thing, but one can ponder the emotion, without having to become loss in it.

But why should this be seen as a burden? These crewmen have relationships  to these things — how these things relate to them, how they relate to these things, and what is the give and take between such an relationship. This works the same way WITH what people would call attachments. They are relationships, how a personality relates to something in its own perspective — if I have a personality that has a problem with a certain friend, and around them, this personality always appears and acts accordingly from its perspective, then this occurs based on a relationship.  It acts this way and sees this way, because this is how it relates.  The same thing can be applied to the body, if my body craves something, it does so because of it\’s \”relationship with it\” — there is an association, it has been already built and defined, an aspect of the consciousness of my body loves it and the thing which it loves communicates back to it in terms of vibration.

And it exist this way for most things, whatever your attention rest upon, impressions of that form is received through the senses. These impressions trigger personalities, emotions, and urges, based on the association these have with the form. There is already a pre-existent relationship and it is this that is projected upon the form.

Once one begins to see it, everything has a relationship — \”personalities\” have a relationship to the thing which it is drawn to, the same for the lower nature, etc. Depending on the maturity or development, this relationship can either be unhealthy or healthy. Healthy being that which can assist you in a positive way or just be something that cause neither harm nor foul.

This even exist in us between different functions or levels of being in us. There is a relationship between personalities, an relationship between personality and the emotions, relationship between the body and emotions, the body and the mind, and so forth.  And these relationships don\’t fade, yet one can suppress them, but this suppression neither aids nor heals, just puts it off, but it will come again, as the Laws will demand that there \”harmony\” between these relationships are fulfilled. It is these internal relationships which a person striving to be a conscious actor is really striving to change. The way we react to the outside world, reflects the state of our internal world — one thing reacts that way in us because everything each reacts that way in us — but if these relationships are developed more healthy and put in order, then we change the way of how we not only relate to the world,  but how self sufficient we are from it.

Relationships are developed — from unhealthy to healthy, from disharmony to harmony and everything has a relationship to something, if you know what it is, then your inner director can act as a mediator. So when you see something in yourself and you see how you are identified with something, think of it as a relationship that exist and ask yourself is this relationship unhealthy and how can I improve upon it, so that it aids me, and that which is in me that is identified, can express to its utmost zenith of expressions.

our Actor: Ah a relationship! That makes a lot of sense to me. But is there a way, that I can better \”see\” these various shifting of the characters of personality? I remember you explain, back in one of your lectures, that a person lives in their last shifting of the characters of personality, hence why it is not at all easy to see. Is there any methods or practices which can aid me in this?

The teacher: You have to begin to gain a sense for it, the Director in you, or the First Matey, he is acquiring little by little knowledge of these various shifts through self study. Contact must be made to the body and emotions, because with each personality shift, they have their rhythm and will be identified with certain feelings (have relationship with certain feelings), the body movements will shift in a subtle way, the voice may shift a bit, and even the breath can change.  These are all indicators and as you look into, you will gain a inner sensing of the truth of what is appearing, or attempting to assume power, or has already taken it.

My advice would be to recognize certain ques not just in perspective but reactions in the body and emotions, that are unique to each. These ques will tell you what a shifting personality\’s relationship is with the thing which it is connected to.  It is out of this relationship, that is what defines it, that makes a personality respond in the way it does. It is a perspective and how it views life, but it is also an actual \”part\” which retains how it relates to life/forms and everything which maybe in it\’s \”circle\”. By circle I am referring to \”group\” of personalities and even others not of its group.  It is all relationship and it is essential to observe such relationships in the state they maybe, before any change is made. This can not be stressed enough, like the director of the inner play, there must be made in yourself something of a film recording, to record the dynamics of these relationships, or these parts of yourself  as they are. This film strip will be useful later.

Something even more practical. You have to create a space before the shifting, in order to truly catch it. Not all personalities move at the same rate. Create a space of awareness prior, then you can see everything as it comes in and out. Something else, which is very simple to do is \”feel\”, in terms of sensation, your face. Put attention on your whole face and maintain it. This too prepares a way for observation.

The goal is to get a sense, feeling, and sight of truth more and more, until it swells in you, and consumes whatever falsities their might be left. The falsities of how I am and why I am, which vain imaginations are a stumbling block to real SELF development AND the object and pursuit of all genuine wise men upon the stage, TO KNOW THY SELF!
